Latin women have been talked about a lot, in the movies, in series, in comics, and in books. If you watch a movie we can be a passionate and impulsive woman, very connected to her family, in the series we can be that beautiful woman who is happy to discover the world, who loves to dance, who is loud, but who always brings happiness wherever she goes. But what is it really like to be a Latina woman?
Although it may sound contrary to all these images you see on television, being a Latina woman is being an entrepreneur.
This is extremely true, and very easy to see when we remember our grandmothers, mothers, and even ourselves, very confidently I will tell you about my grandmother, a woman who with much effort managed to finish fifth grade and for the conditions of the time and her life, in general, could not continue to high school. What she had left after that was to start a business. She took sewing courses and sold clothes, sold soap, bought cattle, sold cattle, and thus, in many turns, sent all her children to university. This story is the story of many women throughout Latin America. Women who, because of the difficulties of life and the problems that come their way, decided to decide to raise their heads and start a business. To raise their children, to be able to eat, to fulfill their dreams, to be independent.
That is the reality of thousands of women entrepreneurs, how do they overcome it, what encourages them, and what prevents them from stopping, I have always thought that the answer is love, love for the things they do, love for their dreams, and even love for their family.
When you are a social entrepreneur, you know that while you are working to fulfill your dream, you are also impacting the lives of many other people, your dreams connect with the dreams of others, and together they grow into a network of resilience and mutual support. Many times that is the fuel to not give up on this arduous path of entrepreneurship. At Womenpalante we want to be that gasoline that women need, that little Pa’ lante Latino that you need when you are going to climb a summit, and that metaphorically is useful when we want to push Latina mothers and women to reach their potential. But at Women Palante we don’t just want to push you, we also want you to find that innate strength in you that has always made it possible for Latinas to get ahead in the midst of difficulties, problems, and catastrophes.
Our mission and vision are focused on making women entrepreneurs aware that this is a path that must be body and soul. That is to say, to have a life of integrity and an enterprise that contributes to society and makes you happy and fulfilled. It is not possible to be a successful entrepreneur apparently in her business, but unhappy as a person, it is not healthy! For the business and much less for you because you must balance the burdens and take care of yourself too. Remember that if you are well, everyone will thank you…
Latinas are entrepreneurial and Women Palante is entrepreneurial with them.
